Tracking With Camera

Why a Camera?

With BreweryRouting you can get a commercial grade camera that provides all the tracking features of the Just Tracking unit, plus a dual windshield mounted camera.

Cameras have two major benefits:

The causes for driver behavior events can be identified. Did the GPS detect the vehicle swerving? The video will show whether this was due to driver inattention, or if there was another vehicle that the driver was trying to avoid.

The camera also can provide positive evidence of actually happened during a collision, or when a traffic stop was made. A red light ticket will probably be dismissed if a video can be produced that shows that the light was really not red. And the question of which driver caused a collision can be determined from a video. In the discussion of the drivers after a collision, the simple statement of “I have the accident on video” can quickly change the attitude of the at fault driver.

Why Commercial Grade?

There are many inexpensive vehicle cameras on the market, but the big difference is what happens in a collision. An inexpensive camera may take several seconds from the time something is seen on the camera until it gets recorded in its memory, and the recording mechanism may be easily damages in the collision. The result is that there are cases where the actual collision is not actually recorded or cannot be retrieved from a damaged unit.

The commercial grade camera consists of two parts: a video recording device usually mounted under the seat and a windshield mounted camera. The recording unit captures the camera images instantaneously and the recording unit itself is built with a rugged design to allow access to the recording media after the collision.

If the collision results in enough damage to render the windshield camera inoperable, only the camera needs to be replaced, and not the video recording device.
